Sony Holland has headlined concerts at many of the
premier jazz clubs and festivals in the U.S. and Asia, working with top
musicians in every setting from quartet to Big Band. Her bell-toned voice and
stylish delivery has won over fans and critics wherever she goes. Since
relocating back to San Francisco last November, Sony has been unquestionably
one of the Bay Area’s hardest working singers. Along with her
guitarist/husband, Jerry Holland, she has held down a 3-night per/week
residency at the J.W. Marriott Union Square and filled in the rest of her
calendar with performances all over NorCal.
Sony loves the heavy schedule. “Performing is the reward
for all of the hard work I do every day in preparation,” she says. “It is very
satisfying to move people with a song.” As Joshua Klipp of the Bay Area
Reporter writes, “No matter how near or far we sat from Sony, it was always as
if she sang just to us. Every song felt fresh and personal. There was no sense
of repetition, only warmth, joy, and Sony's profound desire to give her gift to
anyone who would listen.”
