The Dan Wilensky Group employs diverse original compositions and reworked standards (Porter, Kern, et al.), the band will explore the many textures of this “radical” instrumentation made “safe” by Sonny Rollins some 60 years ago. Something old, something new, and everything in between.

An alumni of the legendary Berkeley Schools Jazz program created by Herb Wong, Phil Hardymon, and Dick Whittington, and a student of jazz great Joe Henderson, saxophonist and composer Dan Wilensky left Berkeley to tour with Ray Charles a week after graduating from high school. He subsequently won a NEA grant, toured and recorded with hundreds of artists, from Jack McDuff to David Bowie, and was featured in the Emmy-winning PBS children’s show, Between The Lions. He recently moved to Portland, Oregon after 30 years in New York City. Wilensky’s fifth recording as a leader, Made In Portland, was released in June, 2015.
